True North Sports & Entertainment Limited is the owner of the Manitoba Moose and
is the owner, developer, and operator of Winnipeg’s downtown multi-purpose sports
and entertainment centre. In 2003, True North acquired the ownership of the Moose
hockey franchise to create a single ownership entity for the new facility and the
team, which has been the facility's anchor tenant since the building opened in Fall
2004. The President and CEO of True North is Jim Ludlow.
As building owner and developer, True North has completed construction on the 15,000+
seat entertainment, sports, performing arts and community events facility at a prominent
address on Portage Avenue in the heart of downtown. The total capital cost was $133.5
million, with the private sector providing $93 million and the public sector $40.5
million toward the capital cost of the facility.
The MTS Centre is seen as the major catalyst in Winnipeg's ongoing business and
cultural renaissance that includes new and planned initiatives for sports, tourism,
education, business, entertainment and dining in the downtown.
